Stage 1 Fire Restrictions enacted

Effective beginning 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, until further notice. These restrictions apply to all private land and BLM managed public lands within the boundaries of the Grand Junction Field Office. For more information visit the Fire Restrictions webpage.

The Board of Mesa County Commissioners submitted formal comments to Mr. Doug Vilsack, Director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Colorado State Office, on the upcoming December 2025 Colorado Oil and Gas Lease Sale, which includes 722.29 acres of split estate land in Mesa County. A "split estate" refers to situations where different parties own a property's surface rights and subsurface mineral rights. In this case a portion of the land available for lease has private surface ownership with federal mineral ownership.

The Board has requested a consistency review to ensure the sale aligns with local land use plans and regulations. They also emphasize the need for safe road access, proper permitting for oversized vehicles, and maintenance requirements to protect county roads. Mesa County seeks responsible development while safeguarding infrastructure and community interests, and it supports using public lands and resources to benefit our economy, environment, and communities.
