On Sept. 5, Mesa County Commissioners adopted a resolution to call an election extending the term limits for the Mesa County Surveyor to three terms.

The resolution was brought forth by a request made on June 27, 2023 (as indicated by a video timestamp of 00:41), by a Mesa County resident to extend term limits for the positions of Mesa County Treasurer, Assessor, Clerk, and Surveyor — the request was to increase the term limit from two four-year terms to three four-year terms. The reasoning behind the proposal was that these offices are primarily administrative and tend to be non-political, and having qualified individuals serve longer in these roles would allow them to acquire additional experience while in office before reaching their term limit.
