2025 was a challenging year for Mesa County. From wildfires to shifting state and federal funding, pressures affected nearly every part of local government.

Through it all, Mesa County showed up.

Every department worked through the challenges, continued delivering essential services and planned ahead with care. That teamwork gives us confidence as we move into 2026.

This year reinforced a critical truth that county work is not just about projects. It is about people.

Mesa County works best when residents are engaged. Community input — shared through public meetings, emails, calls and conversations — helps guide decisions and priorities.

County leaders represent every resident, regardless of background or viewpoint. Hearing different perspectives strengthens understanding and leads to better solutions for the community as a whole.

Like many local governments, Mesa County faced budget pressure in 2025 due to state and federal funding changes. In response, the county focused on transparency, careful planning and responsible spending.

Teams worked to stretch existing resources, adopt efficient practices and make thoughtful investments — always mindful that this is the public’s checkbook.

2025 highlighted the value of collaboration.

During events like the Turner Gulch Fire, county departments worked side by side to support residents and respond quickly. Across the organization, teams found creative ways to solve problems, use new technology and improve efficiency while maintaining core services.

Road maintenance and safety continued to be a priority, with projects like the roundabout at 32 1/2 and E roads in Clifton completed this year and additional improvements planned ahead. Preventive maintenance strategies are helping extend the life of roadways and reduce future costs.

Mesa County also continued to advocate for critical water issues, address unfunded mandates, and work on solutions related to wildlife impacts and local producers.

As we move into 2026, Mesa County is stronger, more efficient and committed to building a community prepared for the future.
