The 32 1/2 Road and Clifton Campus Roadway Improvement Project is complete
Mesa County is pleased to announce the completion of the 32 1/2 Road and Clifton Campus Roadway Improvement Project. The upgraded corridor is fully open for the Clifton community and all Mesa County motorists.
The project focused on improving safety, managing growing traffic in the area and creating stronger connections between key community destinations. Work included replacing the bridge over the Grand Valley Irrigation Canal on 32 1/2 Road, building a new roundabout and roadway extension linking E Road to the south end of 32 1/2 Road near D 7/8 Road and widening D 3/4 Road to better accommodate neighborhood travel. A new sidewalk now connects Rocky Mountain Elementary Park with nearby residential areas.
“32 ½ has always been an old farm to market road where it’s just two lanes of asphalt with gravel shoulders, but that needed to have sidewalk improvements for the school kids, drainage improvements and brought up to that full corridor footprint that you would normally see for that type of road,” Mesa County Engineering Director Laura Page said.
The improvements also support the surrounding education and community facilities, which serve as gathering points for Clifton families.
“With the development of the Early Childhood Education Center, Rocky Mountain Elementary School, and our new Community Center here in Clifton, it was natural that we connect E Road to the rest of the world,” Chair of the Board of Mesa County Commissioners Cody Davis said.
The project moved forward with significant collaboration and financial support from multiple levels of government.
“It’s a great collaboration and a team effort between Mesa County and the grants that we’ve received from the state and federal government,” Mesa County Commissioner JJ Fletcher said.
Mesa County appreciates the community’s patience throughout construction and looks forward to seeing residents benefit from these improvements for years to come.
