When families face challenges that bring them into contact with the child welfare system, Mesa County Department of Human Services (MCDHS) is here to offer support. Our Family Empowerment Team provides free, voluntary, home-based services to system-involved families who want to strengthen their relationships and keep their families safely together.

Our work is centered on building trust and providing tools that help families grow stronger. We partner with parents and caregivers to increase parenting skills, deepen understanding of child development and connect them to meaningful resources. Our goal is to promote family well-being, stability and resilience from within the home.

“We know you love your child and want what’s best for them,” says Joe Kellerby, MCDHS Child Welfare Director. “We also understand how difficult it can be to access resources while navigating involvement with the system. Our team is here to walk beside you and connect you to the support you deserve.”

The Family Empowerment approach focuses on:

  • Strengthening family functioning through personalized support
  • Promoting children’s social and emotional development
  • Encouraging parent resilience and positive relationships
  • Connecting families to concrete resources in times of need

If you’re involved with the child welfare system and want help navigating next steps, call our Family Empowerment Team at 970-609-KIDZ or contact DHS at 970-242-1211.
