The Family Empowerment Team at Mesa County Department of Human Services can offer free and voluntary services to assist families in caring for their children. The focus of Family Empowerment is to strengthen family functioning and keep them together by increasing parenting strategies and understanding child development. We also aim to increase social and emotional competence of children, increase parent resiliency and positive relationships, and increase connections to concrete supports during times of need. Our goal is to drive community engagement in family well-being through home based services.

Children and youth do best when they are with their own families whenever safely possible. When families are in different stages of crisis, Family Empowerment intervenes with genuine and authentic engagement. This engagement leads to connection in their own community for services, utilization of natural and professional supports as well as the empowerment of families to create safety and protective abilities within their own family system.

“We know you love your child and want what’s best for them, and we also recognize that the various resources you may need can be difficult to access on your own,” says MCDHS Child Welfare Director Joe Kellerby. “Our priority is to walk alongside you and connect you to other professionals who can help throughout your parenting journey, no matter what your circumstances are.”

If you would like to reach out and learn more about how to receive support from a family empowerment team member, please call our Family Empowerment team hotline at 970-609-KIDZ or call 970-242-1211.

We may not always have the answers when you arrive, but we can find them together. For more information about Child Welfare programs and services, please visit the Mesa County Foster & Adopt website.
