At their June 11 administrative public hearing, the Board of Mesa County Commissioners voted to sign grant applications requesting $163,049 in federal funding for foster youth transitional aid programs.

Mesa County Department of Human Services (DHS) submits plans each year for funding programs that help youth and young adults ages 14-23 transition from foster care to an independent adulthood, where they feel strong, capable, successful, valued, and loved.

These programs focus on providing coaching and transition services, life skills, and housing vouchers that help participants achieve their goals and desires to thrive and live independently.

If awarded, funding will come from:

  • Mesa County Chafee Foster Care Independence Program ($66,028)
  • Youth Successful Transition to Adulthood Grant Program ($53,701)
  • Fostering Success Voucher Program ($43,320)
