Purple ribbon ceremony held in recognition of Adult Protection Awareness Month
This afternoon, Mesa County Department of Human Services marked Adult Protection Awareness Month with our annual Purple Ribbon Ceremony.
Led by the Adult Protection team, we recognized vulnerable adults in our community who face abuse, neglect or exploitation. Staff gathered outside the Community Services Building, 510 29 ½ Road, to tie purple ribbons and show support for at-risk adults. The color purple represents the problem of elder abuse, and wearing or decorating with it is one way to support our cause.
An at-risk adult is anyone 18 or older who is unable to protect themselves due to age, disability or other circumstances. In 2024, we received over 2,475 referrals. These numbers reflect both the scale of need and the dedication of MCDHS staff working behind the scenes every day.
The Adult Protection team investigates reports of abuse, helps protect vulnerable adults, connects them to vital services, and supports families with a focus on prevention.
