Commissioner Daniel gives Japanese beetle eradication effort update
In collaboration with our partners, the City of Grand Junction, School District 51, CSU Extension, the state, local contractors and community members, Mesa County is in its third year of battling the invasive and destructive Japanese beetle.
Thanks to the effective collaboration of our community members and partners, we have successfully treated 1,500 parcels this season to protect our fundamental agriculture from the significant damage the beetle causes to economies.
Fortunately, our efforts don't have to stop at properties in the Japanese beetle hot zone. Residents living outside the hot zone are encouraged to do their part in the fight to achieve our goal of stopping the spread of the Japanese beetle before it reaches agricultural areas.
You can help in two ways:
- Treat your lawn with grub control, such as GrubEx (found in the garden section at local stores).
- Dry out your lawn if you'd prefer not to use chemicals.
