Beginning May 19, 2025, Mesa County, in partnership with WD Yards, Inc., will begin Japanese beetle eradication treatment on properties within the hot zone. The treatment includes application of Acelepryn (Chlorantraniliprole), a pesticide that is considered safe for humans, pets, pollinators and birds while effectively targeting Japanese beetles in the grub stage.

For landowners outside of the treatment area, we encourage you to treat your lawns with the insecticide GrubEX, available at various retailers and local garden centers. If you prefer not to use an insecticide, drying down your lawn by not watering it at all from June to August is also an effective method to prevent Japanese beetles, as the first growing stage (instar) of Japanese beetle grubs is extremely sensitive to low moisture content.
