Stage 2 Fire Restrictions enacted

Effective beginning 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, until further notice. These restrictions apply to all private land and BLM managed public lands within the boundaries of the Grand Junction Field Office. For more information visit the Fire Restrictions webpage.

Initiative Foods announced Tippy Toes brand Apple Pear Banana Fruit puree is involved in a national recall. The products are being recalled due to elevated levels of patulin, a substance produced by molds that grow in fruits. The products were distributed to grocery stores nationwide and may have been sold in Mesa County. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection to these products.

  • Lot #07174 with a best by date of 07/17/2026

What consumers should do

  • Consumers should check pantries for the recalled products and throw them out or return to the place of purchase.
  • Contact a doctor right away if symptoms develop after consuming the recalled products.

Patulin exposure description 

  • Patulin is a toxin produced by mold. 
  • Acute ingestion can lead to nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Long-term exposure can result in immune suppression and neurological issues. 

 

MCPH role in food recalls

There are systems in place to make sure the food people buy and eat is safe. When Mesa County Public Health (MCPH) has been made aware of a product being recalled that could have been distributed in Mesa County, MCPH shares the information so it reaches as many community members as possible.
