Stage 1 Fire Restrictions enacted

Effective beginning 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, until further notice. These restrictions apply to all private land and BLM managed public lands within the boundaries of the Grand Junction Field Office. For more information visit the Fire Restrictions webpage.

Mesa County Public Health (MCPH) has been made aware of a recall involving approximately 167,277 pounds of ground beef products from Wolverine Packing Co.  The food is being recalled due to a potential contamination of E. coli. The products were distributed to restaurants nationwide and may have been distributed in Mesa County.

Description of recalled products

  • Ground beef products with an establishment number “EST. 2574B” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
  • Fresh products have a ‘use by’ date of 11/14/2024.
  • Frozen products are labeled with the production date 10-22-2024.

What should restaurants do

  • Check refrigerators or freezers for any of the recalled items.
  • Throw away the products or return them to the place where they were purchased for a refund.

What should consumers do

  • Consumers are urged to safely prepare their raw meat products and only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160˚F.

E. coli description and treatment

  • E. coli is a bacteria that can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
  • Symptoms usually begin 3 to 4 days after being infected, but symptoms can start any time between 1 and 14 days. Symptoms can last up to 2 weeks.
  • Some people may have a fever, which usually is not very high (less than 101˚F).
  • E. coli can lead to rare but serious infections for children five and younger, older adults, and persons with weakened immune systems.
  • Contact your doctor if your diarrhea is persistent, severe, or bloody.
