Food Safety Alert: Infant formula recalled due to botulism contamination
Certain ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula products are involved in a national recall. The formula is being recalled due to potential botulism contamination. The products are sold online and at major retailers nationwide and may have been sold in Mesa County. To date, 13 illnesses have been reported in connection to these products. The FDA’s investigation is ongoing to determine if additional products are impacted.

What consumers should do
- Parents and caregivers should check their pantries for the recalled products and throw them out immediately.
- Contact a doctor right away if your child has symptoms after consuming the recalled products.
Botulism exposure description and risk
- Symptoms of infant botulism include constipation, poor feeding, loss of head control, and difficulty swallowing, which can progress to difficulty breathing.
- Symptoms can take several weeks to develop following formula ingestion.
- Botulism can be fatal. If a child is experiencing symptoms, seek immediate healthcare.
