Maintaining roads takes consistent work and the right materials at the right time.

Mesa County is securing those materials to keep repairs on track.

On April 14, the Board of County Commissioners approved a contract with Elam Construction for hot mix asphalt, not to exceed $145,000.

Hot mix asphalt is used for patching, repairs and other surface work on county roads. This contract ensures crews have reliable access to materials throughout the construction season, so they can keep projects moving.

Last year’s contract was $97,000. This year’s increase reflects a need to address more rough areas across the county.

Road crews prioritize repairs based on road conditions and needs in each area. Patching can range from small problem spots to longer sections of roadway, with the goal of preventing larger issues from developing.

Water is one of the biggest causes of road damage. Sealing problem areas early helps prevent potholes from worsening and extends the road's lifespan.

Residents can report potholes and road concerns using the county’s Road Problem Reporter, helping crews identify and prioritize repairs.

This work supports safer travel and helps maintain the overall condition of Mesa County roads.
