Keep Your Car Prepared for Winter Driving
December 26, 2024
Winter’s cold days remind us to stay prepared for unpredictable driving conditions this season. Is your car ready for your winter travels? Whether commuting to work, running errands, or heading out of town to spend time with family, preparing your vehicle now can make all the difference. Here’s a quick checklist to get you and your car ready for winter travel.
Prep your vehicle
- Check tire treads: Worn-out tires struggle on icy roads, so make sure you have solid traction.
- Test brakes and heaters: Icy roads make braking harder, so ensure brakes are in good condition. Verify your heater, defroster, and windshield wipers are all working well too.
- Fill up fluids: Top off antifreeze, windshield wiper fluid, and other essentials before temperatures drop.
Stock an emergency kit
- Warmth essentials: Keep blankets, coats, hats, and gloves in your vehicle in case you’re ever stuck in the cold.
- Food & hydration: Pack water bottles and non-perishable snacks like granola or protein bars.
- Chargers and flashlight: Bring an extra phone charger and a flashlight with spare batteries.
- Shovel and traction supplies: A small shovel and sand or cat litter can come in handy if you get stuck in deep snow.
Colorado winters can be unpredictable. A little planning goes a long way in keeping our community safe. Take a few minutes to prepare your car, and let’s drive safe and stay warm this winter!
