Our community can continue to enjoy Mesa Magic Compost, as the County Commissioners approved a $776,000 purchase order at their July 1 public hearing for a new horizontal grinder, the equipment used at the Organic Materials Composting Facility to make compost.

The Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility relies on a horizontal grinder to process nearly 45,000 cubic yards of yard waste annually. Grinding is a crucial step in the composting process, essential for producing a high-quality soil amendment that enhances soil structure and promotes water conservation for Mesa County residents.

The new grinder will replace the Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility’s 13-year-old horizontal grinder, which is nearing the end of its useful life. As equipment ages, operational costs tend to increase due to reduced efficiency and the need to replace major wear components.

You can visit the Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility to drop off your material or buy Mesa Magic to support your garden at 3071 US-50, from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
