We’re proud to announce that Kaleo Nakano, a member of the Mesa County Workforce Center’s (MCWFC) Career Development (CDP) team, has been nominated for the Statewide Governor’s Summer Job Hunt Award!

Kaleo has been with our team serving as the first staff member dedicated to Youth Outreach for WIOA, and he has already made an extraordinary impact. Whether it’s guiding youth through career exploration, encouraging independence or supporting colleagues with his positive outlook, Kaleo brings energy and optimism to his role.

In his short time on the CDP team, Kaleo has:

  • Built strong relationships with schools, detention centers and employers to connect youth with on-the-job training, internships and apprenticeships.
  • Served as a consistent and supportive presence for youth in the Colorado Chafee Program, which supports young people in or transitioning out of foster care.
  • Played a key role in the Workforce Center’s largest GED cohort graduation yet, helping students stay engaged and on track.

His thoughtful approach and steady dedication are just a few of the reasons his nomination stood out. A huge thanks as well to MCWFC Employment Specialist Neil Morris, who submitted such a glowing recommendation.

Nominees were recognized at the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt Award Ceremony earlier this month at the Governor’s Mansion Carriage House in Denver. We’re excited to see him honored at the state level for his outstanding work with Mesa County youth.

Congratulations, Kaleo! We’re grateful for your commitment and proud to have you on our team.
