Mesa County is grateful to residents who volunteer their time and expertise to serve on boards and commissions. These volunteer roles play an important part in guiding County services and supporting community decision-making.

Overview of what applicants can expect throughout the appointment process

1

Apply online

Available boards and commissions are listed on this page. To be considered, please complete and submit the online application in full. Once your application is completed and submitted, you will receive confirmation that County Administration has received it.

Submitting an application does not guarantee an interview. Boards and commissions vary in their needs, timing, and desired experience, and applications are reviewed with those factors in mind.

2

Interview (if selected)

If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly to schedule it. All volunteer board interviews are publicly noticed and open to the public. Interview dates, times, and locations are posted in advance.

3

Public hearing (if selected for appointment)

If you are selected to move forward for an appointment, your name will appear on a public hearing agenda under Individual Consideration before the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

Public hearings are held on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m., and agendas are posted on the Friday before the hearing. Members of the public are invited to attend, submit written comments, or provide public comment (up to three minutes). If you are a potential appointee, you are not required to attend the public hearing, though you are welcome to do so.

4

Decision and notification

After public comment and discussion, the Board of County Commissioners will vote to approve or deny the appointment. Once a decision is made following public engagement at a public hearing, the applicants who were not selected will also be notified that they were not appointed.

5

Additional information

All received applications are retained on file and may be considered for future openings. Board terms vary, and vacancies may occur due to term expirations or resignations. Keeping your application on file helps ensure it can be considered if another opportunity becomes available.

This process is designed to ensure public notice, that state statutory and procedural requirements are followed, and that meaningful opportunities for community input are provided before appointments are finalized.

Staying engaged and informed

Civic engagement like yours is essential to a healthy local government, and we appreciate the time and care residents take to participate.

To support continued engagement, we invite you to share feedback through a short community survey designed to improve how we communicate volunteer opportunities and public processes.

Commissioner email information

You are always welcome to contact the County Commissioners directly with questions, concerns, or ideas. Public engagement does not begin or end with a single meeting, and we value ongoing dialogue with our residents.
