At their June 11 administrative public hearing, the Board of Mesa County Commissioners voted to sign grant applications requesting $163,049 in federal funding for foster youth transitional aid programs.

County voices concerns on Sage-Grouse protection plans
On June 11, the Board of County Commissioners submitted a letter to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) regarding the proposed changes to land management rules for the Greater Sage-Grouse. These changes could significantly affect our community. Mesa County has approximately 14,200 acres of Greater Sage-Grouse habitat in the area between De Beque and Collbran — of those acres, approximately 12,000 are on private land.

CDOT grant will help fund MESA-Q.6.8 bridge rehabilitation
The MESA-Q.6.8 bridge, located approximately four miles west of Mack on old U.S. Highway 6 and 50 over West Salt Creek, will receive significant rehabilitation, 80% funded through a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) grant. During the Commissioners' June 11 public hearing, they authorized the public works director to sign a $3.2 million grant award agreement from CDOT for the bridge rehabilitation.
