Animal Services transition to enforcement operations
At the Dec. 17 public hearing, Mesa County provided an update on the transition of Animal Services enforcement operations to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, effective Jan. 1, 2025. Criminal Justice Services Director Matt Lewis and Division Chief Art Smith addressed County Commissioners and outlined key updates for the community.

County sees success in Japanese Beetle control efforts
Mesa County’s aggressive efforts to combat the invasive Japanese Beetle are showing significant progress. In 2024, the County treated 1,428 acres of turf, a notable increase from 1,200 acres in 2023. This proactive approach led to an 86% decrease in Japanese Beetle captures.

Hazardous Waste Disposal Facility Continues Electronics Recycling
During the Board of Mesa County Commissioners' Dec. 10 public hearing, they unanimously approved the $120,000 third contract extension with Onsite Electronics Recycling to ensure our community’s old electronics are recycled responsibly.

County Extends Two Contracts for Mattress Recycling Program
In the last four years of mattress recycling in Mesa County, the Landfill has saved the County $375,000 in airspace — and at the Dec. 10 public hearing, the Commissioners unanimously voted to approve two contracts to continue offering this service to our community.
