No Burn Advisory

Mesa County Public Health has issued a No Burn Advisory from Saturday, June 6 at 7 a.m. until Tuesday, June 9 at 9 p.m. due to fire danger. Burning of any kind, including agricultural burning, is not allowed during this advisory period. Check conditions on our Air Quality webpage.

Report sightings of the flowering rush noxious weed

Today, we are highlighting the flowering rush noxious weed for National Invasive Species Awareness Week so our community can help identify and report this weed to keep it out of our waterways and minimize its damage to our environment. The flowering rush invades wetlands and streambanks and is a host plant to the organisms that cause “swimmer’s itch.” Leach Creek in Grand Junction is Colorado’s only known location of flowering rush infestations, making eradication possible.

How to identify the dalmatian toadflax noxious weed

This National Invasive Species Awareness Week, we are highlighting noxious weeds that can be found in our area to bring awareness and education to our community. When residents have the proper knowledge, they can report the noxious weed to Mesa County so we can treat it before it causes a larger problem. The dalmatian toadflax is a noxious weed established in high-elevation areas near Mesa and Molina with the ability to aggressively invade pastures, forests, and disturbed sites by forming monocultures that degrade grazing lands for cattle and wildlife.
