Mesa County Public Health has issued a No Burn Advisory starting 12 p.m. on Monday, May 12 and lasting until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13 due to strong winds.

You’re invited to participate in the update of the Mesa County Stormwater Management
Manual (SWMM)! An initial public meeting will be held for all interested parties on Wednesday,
May 21, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The SWMM update team will go over the overall approach and collect public feedback on the current SWMM, last updated in 2007.

Last week, during the April 29 public hearing, Mesa County Commissioners approved a $97,000 contract with Kilgore Companies (doing business as Elam Construction) for 1,000 tons of hot mix asphalt.

The flowering rush invades wetlands and streambanks and is a host plant to the organisms that cause “swimmer’s itch.” Leach Creek in Grand Junction is Colorado’s only known location of flowering rush infestations, making eradication possible.

Mesa County has joined Pitkin, Eagle, Delta, and Montrose Counties to explore the feasibility of producing and deploying Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the Western Slope region. SAF is made from renewable, non-fossil sources and reduces carbon emissions on a lifecycle basis.
